Just a Dash

Hi there! This week’s word for Saturday Scavenger Shots, “dash” was chosen by AlienCG of “Swamp Gas and Moonlit Reflections”. I decided to go through a box of old photos to find a few for the game.

Do you remember the event called “Hands Across America” that took place back in 1986? Well this photo was taken by my dad on that day. Here’s a shot of a bike. It looked like some kid ditched his/her bike and then dashed.

This is my youngest brother when he was in high school. He was on the track team and was all prepared to dash. Maybe it was a 400-yard dash, who knows?

Here is a photo of my brother’s track team. They were probably resting after a dash.

AlienCG has tagged me to pick the next word! Let’s go with “mercurial”.

Taste of Winter

Here’s a video that shows you that winter can be a real bleepin’ bleep, and some people just need to be smarter and/or more cautious around the snow and ice that is sometimes part of that lovely season.

Tick Freakin’ Tock!

When my mom and I went in to see our optometrist, I was on the third day of a whopper of a cold, I felt like crap and I sounded like Linda Blair’s character when she was possessed in “The Exorcist” (“Your mother’s in here with us Karras. Would you like to leave a message? I’ll see that she gets it”).

Anyway, after all was said and done, I just needed a stronger prescription for my glasses. They told me it would take up to 10 days. I was already excited, because I spotted my favorite frames right away.

Fast forward to 10 days later. My voice is finally up to 95% and I want my damn glasses! I thought that I’d pick them up today and then complete the new look by going to the salon and getting a new hairdo. I hadn’t received a call from the optometrist’s office, so I called them this morning. This is how it went:

Me: Hi, I had an appointment on January 5th and ordered my glasses. I wanted to see if they were in yet.

Assistant: Did we call you?

Me: No….

Assistant: Then they’re not in yet. We’ll call you when they come in.

I bristled a bit. It was like looking for something in a store and asking an associate if they had that particular item, and they’d say, “If it’s not on the shelf, we don’t have it.” Only this was way more annoying. I decided that I was going to get a new hairdo anyway, so that’s what I did.

Usually when I go into a salon, I get outrageous. I go for an extreme haircut….well, extreme for me. This time, though, I wanted to keep my hair long, but I didn’t want to look like a crazy lady with split ends. My stylist was very helpful. I’m glad I asked for her advice, because she did a wonderful job. I’ll ask for her again. Now I want to complete my new look with my new damned glasses! Tick tock, people! I’ll have to wait until Tuesday for any word, because they’re closed on Mondays. Phooey! I know it’s not a huge problem, but I’m excited and maybe too eager.

Saturday Scavenger Shots: Social

Happy Saturday! It’s time for another edition of “Saturday Scavenger Shots, and the lovely Laura chose the word “social”. Play along and …. so-cial I! Heh…get it? I’ll move on.

Here’s a photo I took when we visited family in Arizona for Thanksgiving. That’s a table-full of social activity.

This photo was taken years ago in South Carolina. Except for two of the girls in that photo, this was the first time the group of us met in person. We called it the Diva Fest. We were all fans of the actor Dougray Scott and we met through an online fan forum. I think this was before Facebook was created, so we were into social networks before the “social network”. We had so much fun.

The First Diva Fest

Yay, it’s Friday! I’m so glad. I’m in a good mood, too. I paid off my Walmart credit card. I didn’t have a huge number on it, but it’s always a good feeling to get that out of the way. The only problem is that I feel so good that I want to buy more to celebrate! I must resist.

Speaking of celebrations, here is this week’s “Friday5”! Play along!

1. When did you last blow up a balloon?
I don’t even remember, it’s been that long!

2. Whose house is especially well-designed for parties, and why?
Can’t think of a specific place, but any area that has enough room to make people feel comfortable and cozy.

3. If the party starts at seven, what time are you there?
Unfortunately, I have a habit of showing up too early. I don’t like to be late, but I need to work on arriving when they expect me.

4. Who brought the best thing to your last potluck?
One of my coworkers usually brings in a Mexican dip to our office potlucks, and I can never get enough of it.

5. Now that the holidays are over, what (besides a birthday) might be the next thing you celebrate in the company of others?
Well, I am thinking of having a dollhouse-warming party when I finish my dollhouse!

What Flavor Greek Yogurt Are You?

You Are Vanilla Flavored Greek Yogurt

You are easygoing and delighted by the world. You are a comfort seeker, and you always know what you want.
You pride yourself on being low maintenance. You keep your expectations in check, and you’re usually pleasantly surprised by life.

You find joy in so many things. You practice gratitude, and because of this, the glass is always half full for you.
A sunny day, a happy dog, a call from a friend, the perfect cup of yogurt… any of these small things will put a smile on your face.

Saturday Scavenger Shots: Voice

Hey there, it’s time for Saturday Scavenger Shots! I picked the word, “voice” because…well I don’t have one right now. I mean I can voice my opinions, but my actual voice is a bit gravelly and manly right now. Some say it’s sexy. That would be nice if I didn’t have a cough and if I could use my voice to sing to my iPod and the mixed CD in my car. Nothing much comes out right now. Oh well, “don’t cry for me, Argentina”.

Just moments ago, I glued the last shingle onto my dollhouse. May I voice my grievances on how tedious this task turned out to be? I must’ve gone through four or five bottles of heavy-duty glue. Part of it was fun, though, because I’d play music or have the TV on and I could really glue a lot down if my ears were occupied. I have some shingles leftover just in case I need to make some repairs.

Here’s the other side of the house. My mom bought me the handy-dandy, self-standing flashlight you see there in the attic. Even without a voice, I was able to make tons of progress using that flashlight. I look forward to adding carpeting, tile and either paint or wallpaper to the various rooms.

Laura, you are the chosen one for the next word leader! I knight thee, Lady of the Chosen Word.
